In his youth, Keith Hamlett had no ambitions (‘I was a very bolshy, intractable, cultureless nineteen-year-old’), but was convinced that taking the right direction in life was of vital importance. His
passions from an early age included classical music and climbing.

At art school he discovered a third – sculpture – and at the age of thirty held his first one-man exhibition. Sculptures, paintings and drawings have dominated his life ever since. His firm belief that
he is incapable of writing words that a reader can reconstruct as images has not stopped him from writing this memoir.
